Diana Ross is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and producer. She is best known as the lead singer of the Supremes, one of the most successful girl groups of all time. Ross has also had a successful solo career, with hits such as "Endless Love" and "I'm Coming Out."
Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 26, 1944. She began singing in church at a young age, and by the time she was a teenager, she was performing in local talent shows. In 1961, Ross was discovered by Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, and she soon became the lead singer of the Supremes.
The Supremes were one of the most popular and successful girl groups of all time. They had 12 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop! In the Name of Love." The Supremes also starred in several films, including "The T.A.M.I. Show" and "Lady Sings the Blues."
In 1970, Ross left the Supremes to pursue a solo career. She released her debut solo album, "Diana Ross," in 1970, and it was a critical and commercial success. Ross went on to release several more successful solo albums, including "Touch Me in the Morning" (1973),"Diana" (1976),and "Silk Electric" (1982). She also starred in several films, including "Mahogany" (1975),"The Wiz" (1978),and "Out of Darkness" (1995).
Ross has won numerous awards for her music and acting, including eight Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Tony Award. She has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.
Early Life
Diana Ross was born on March 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second of six children born to Ernestine Moten, a schoolteacher, and Fred Ross, a factory worker. Ross's parents divorced when she was a young child, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Arthur Gore, a construction worker.
Ross began singing in church at a young age, and by the time she was a teenager, she was performing in local talent shows. In 1961, Ross was discovered by Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, and she soon became the lead singer of the Supremes.
The Supremes

Personal Life
Ross has been married twice. She was married to Robert Ellis Silberstein from 1971 to 1977, and they had two children together. Ross was then married to Arne Naess Jr. from 1985 to 2000, and they had two children together.
Ross is a mother of five children: Rhonda Ross Kendrick (born 1971),Tracee Ellis Ross (born 1972),Chudney Ross (born 1975),Ross Naess (born 1987),and Evan Ross (born 1988).
